After some head-scratching (I\u2019m doing a lot of that recently\u2026), I happened to notice that our friendly plumber had turned the hot water system off at the control box!  Mistake, our a cunning ploy for an expensive fix?  Let\u2019s presume the former.  And the dishwasher has been behaving like the water softener has been failing, so I\u2019ve spent some time on that and we\u2019ll have to wait and see if it\u2019s been fixed now.
