Small delights

I’m doing electronic things in my limited spare time and it’s quite fun and a good brain challenge. I’m obviously of the old school brigade where, when I want to make something, I trawl through my box of bits and dig out a few passive components and a transistor or two and then maybe even an op amp, bung it together on a breadboard thingy and see if I can make it do what I want. Trouble is nowadays getting the individual bits is getting harder and complicated, so I decided to look (or a look was thrust upon me by a search in ebay) that revealed, in this case, a complete audio amplifier for peanuts. A class D amplifier (all very modern for me!) for about £2.50. Bought it and when it arrived I was astounded at the size. Or lack of it! Blimey, haven’t things come a long way? I’ve yet to install it, which will be as simple as it gets, so no review yet, just have to find the time to do it!  Watch this space for my new ‘machine’ and how this tidily bit (a 3 watt audio amplifier) works….{CAPTION}
