Holiday 1 2026

To start the year’s holidays we ventured on a car tour of the UK and the Republic of Ireland for 18 days. What a wonderful, interesting holiday it was, too, with ‘interesting’ weather as well!

Check the map for the (anti-clockwise) route that we took. (We is Jane and I, in case there’s any ambiguity.).

Highlights were Manchester (so much variety and culture), Liverpool (a big pizza with very tasty bits), Coniston Water (saw the speed boat Bliebird 3 running there on a special event), the Samye Ling Buddhist temple in Scotland, Ayr (crumbling with sweet spots), Derry (so much history in every brick), Galway (what a fantastic place to socialise), Cork (a proper small, buzzing city), Dublin (a true multi-cultural city with everything (although maybe a bit too much sex for our liking…)), Bangor (the Welsh one) (beautiful views from the hotel), Snowdon (what a lovely train ride to the top on a glorious day with fantastic views). Belfast (not so good, but that may just be because Jane was poorly there – we may give it another go sometime).

The car was superb (a Nissan Qashqai), the weather variable (sunshine, rain, cold, warm, hailstorm and high winds), but it all worked out well!
